Aussie viewers are taking a very different stance to a growing American backlash over the explicit content in season three of Euphoria, with many saying the outrage says more about cultural attitudes in the US than the show itself.

The debate has reignited after renewed criticism in the United States of several of the series' more graphic scenes featuring Sydney Sweeney, who plays Cassie Howard in the hit HBO drama.

Some American commentators and online users have argued the show has become 'unnecessarily explicit', with particular focus on nudity and sexual content.

But in Australia, the reaction has been noticeably more relaxed - and, in some cases, bluntly dismissive of the US criticism.

'Oh please. The show is awesome, not even X rated. What are you on about?' one Australian user commented in response to American viewers up in arms about Sweeney's raunchy scenes.
'I thought most people are conditioned and used to nudity by now. I think Gen Z are just snowflakes,' another Aussie critic groaned, as someone else wrote: 'It wasn't even that bad!! It's a show on TV people.'

Elsewhere, another user argued: '[Sweeney is] portraying someone on OnlyFans, these things happen every day. It's as if the people watching and complaining don't realise what OnlyFans is about.'

Euphoria aired its second episode on Sunday, following a season three premiere that was widely panned for its 'nasty' scenes involving stars Zendaya and Sweeney.

After a four-year hiatus, the hit Sam Levinson HBO Max series returned with a five-year time jump, shifting the focus to the characters' lives after high school.

The latest episode, titled America My Dream, left some fans appalled as they questioned why Sweeney’s character Cassie continued to be ‘degraded’ in new X-rated fetish scenes.

Cassie was captured posing for a series of provocative photos for her OnlyFans account, including a graphic shot featuring ice cream dripping down her nude cleavage, after the last episode saw her dressed up as a dog.

In another daring shot, she is seen wearing nothing but a backwards baseball cap as she poses in a baseball-themed set, strategically using her arms to cover her chest and lower body.

Later on she portrays an 'adult baby' with her legs up in the air.

'Somebody save Sydney Sweeney,' one fan wrote, as many others called the scenes a 'humiliation ritual.'

HBO have yet to confirm if season three of Euphoria will be the final one, but Zendaya hinted this will be the case.
