The Wanted star Max George opened up about his health on Friday's episode of Good Morning Britain following a hospital trip earlier this month.

Singer Max, 37, appeared on the most recent episode of the ITV breakfast show to chat to Ranvir Singh, 48, and Kate Garraway, 58, about the British Heart Foundation's latest campaign about raising awareness for people living with heart conditions.

The former Strictly star has helped the charity unveil 65 red benches across the UK to encourage people to get talking.

Max was diagnosed with myocarditis after suffering from a chest infection which turned into pneumonia.

Myocarditis is defined as 'inflammation of the heart muscle, usually following a virus,' according to the British Heart Foundation website, while the NHS describes pneumonia is described as 'inflammation of the lungs, usually caused by an infection'.

The Glad You Came singer was rushed to hospital after falling ill and later fitted with a pacemaker in December 2024 and has since then been very open with his health.

Ranvir said: 'It's not an underestimation to say that you did stare death in the face at that point.
'You must have felt like everything was out of control? It's such a helpless situation in many ways. You can't explain anything.'

Sharing how things are for him at the moment, Max said: 'The doctors didn't know what was wrong at the time, exactly.
'I had to wait in hospital for about eight days. My heart rate was around 24.
'So it wasn’t the nicest week. That was quite difficult.
'But yeah, they got the pace maker in, I depend on it now, it’s 100%. So it’s always working for me. I wouldn’t be here without it.'

Max, who is about to head off on his first music tour in the UK after four years, was asked if he is still able to do everything he used to be able to do.

Ranvir asked: ‘Can you still dance? Can you still do everything that you did?’

Max said: ‘Yeah, I mean I’ve never been able to dance, you know that!
‘I do everything, I even went skiing over Christmas. I’m not sure I was supposed to do that, but I’d already booked it! It had been booked for over a year. I do everything.’

Recalling how he got diagnosed with myocarditis, Max told the broadcasters: ‘Mine happened through a chest infection which turned into pneumonia and got inflammation of the heart muscle.
‘You wont see any symptoms, with mine, it did. It stopped the electrical impulse working in my heart. I had a pace maker put in.’

Kate asked: ‘So when did you know that something was wrong?’

He continued: ‘So I got over the chest infection, there was sort of a two month lay off period, I went on tour in America, that was all fine.
‘Then I came home, started feeling a bit strange, couldn’t put my finger on what was wrong.
‘I went to bed one night, when I woke up the next morning, as soon as I woke up I knew something was really wrong.
‘You know when you got a hangover, and it feels like the world is going to end? It felt like that.
‘Then I looked down, my arm and hands were completely blue; I managed to get downstairs; then as I did; my mum came through the door; I hadn’t seen my face at this point.
‘She walked through the door and she said "What have you done?" I was like "I don’t know; I don’t know what’s going on".
‘Then I got rushed to hospital; within ten mins you’re going to need a defibrillator or a pace maker.’

He took to his Instagram Story to share a health update with fans, hours after revealing he had been rushed to the hospital in the middle of the night.

Several hours later, the singer has posted another update from his hospital bed, admitting he has 'no idea' what is going on.

In a video clip, he said: 'What's happening guys? Just having a load more tests now. Got a bed though, which is nice. Been here pretty much all night, so absolutely knackered.
'They've given me a little bed in the side room, which is cool. No idea what's going on, what's happened or why it happened, but that's why I'm here so hopefully I'll know a little bit more. But yeah, I've had better days.'

It came hours after Max shared a photo of himself sitting in a chair at A&E as he told fans: 'What now f... This sh ALWAYS happens in the middle of the night. Poor Albert [dog emoji].'

In a second picture, Max shared a selfie with his face looking bright red as he was covered by a towel; captioned: 'Running HOT.'

His latest hospital visit comes just weeks after he was forced to return to the hospital for a scan.

Posting on his Stories, the musician shared a clip of himself waiting outside an X-ray area in a hospital.

He captioned the upload: 'Another scan...' and then followed it up with an update on his visit.

Walking through the corridors, he said: 'So I'm just at the hospital in the building where I had all my heart surgeries done.
'I can't say it's good to be back, because it's not.
'I've just had a scan done on my chest because I've had a bit of an issue with one of my lungs, apparently,' he went on.
'Should be fine. It's just a precaution, but yeah. Back in my old second home.'

He signed off with a thumbs-up and a good weekend wish to his followers.

His girlfriend, Maisie Smith, recently revealed she has grown closer than ever to Max, almost a year on from his heart surgery.

The former EastEnders actress, 24, revealed in a new interview how this time last year, 'no one knew what was going to happen' after he underwent a life-saving operation.

11 months later, she has confirmed their bond is stronger than ever and that she fell in love with him all over again.

The couple recently starred together in Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War Of The Worlds in March, playing husband and wife.

Last year, Max wrapped the American leg of The Wanted's 2.0 Tour alongside his bandmate Siva Kaneswaran.

Speaking about how he is getting on following his health scare, Maisie told The Sun: 'He still has hard days and better days, but he's definitely getting stronger again and it's nice to see him performing.'

She added: 'So yeah, he's doing well.
'No one knew what was going to happen this time last year, so it's really nice to see him doing what he was born to do.'

Maisie said she went to watch her boyfriend perform in New York, which she described as 'a nice feeling to see him do that after the year he's had.'
