Here's what CNBC TV's producers were watching as the Nasdaq Composite broke through the 20,000 level for the first time, and what's on the radar for the next session.
The Nasdaq Composite hits 20,000: a new Record
The Nasdaq Composite hit an all-time high of 20,055.93. The index has doubled in four years. It is up nearly 4.3% so far in December and 33.5% so far this year.
The CNBC desk's Adrian van Hauwermeiren pointed out in an internal email that the Magnificent Seven -- that is, Apple, Nvidia, Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, Meta Platforms and Tesla -- saw their total market cap add $416 billion dollars on Wednesday. That's in spite of the iPhone maker's modest decline for the session. That figure exceeds the market cap of companies like Netflix, Bank of America, Salesforce and Procter & Gamble.
Tesla is up 23% in December.
Alphabet is up about 16% in December.
Amazon is up nearly 11% in December.
Meta is up 10% in December.
Apple is up almost 4% in December.
All of the above hit highs on Wednesday.
Nvidia is about flat in December. It is 8.88% from the Nov. 21 high.
Microsoft is up 6% in December. It is 4% from the July high.
Communication services
We'll be watching the sector on Thursday after the 3% jump in the latest session. The sector hit a new high Wednesday and is up 4.4% in three days. Alphabet is the leader, up nearly 12% in three days.
ServiceTitan IPO
CNBC TV's Leslie Picker will report on ServiceTitan's IPO. The CEO and founder Ara Mahdessian will be on "Squawk Box" in the 6 a.m. hour ET. He has a fascinating story about how he built the company based on the needs of the small business run by his parents. The Renaissance IPO ETF hit a high Monday but has fallen almost 4% since then. It is up about 32% in the last 12 months.
Centene's investor day
CNBC TV's Bertha Coombs will cover the managed care company's investor day. This comes amid a bipartisan effort to make health insurance companies and pharmacy benefit managers sell their pharmacy businesses. Centene is 30% from the 52-week high hit back in February. The stock is down 5% in the last week. The stock is down about 23% in three months.
C.H. Robinson investor day
CNBC TV's Frank Holland reports on the trucking company's investor day. C.H. Robinson Worldwide is 3.5% from the mid-October high. It is up 3.3% in December and up 9% in three months. The stock is up 26% so far in 2024.
