Today's Wordle #1697 Hints And Answer For Tuesday, February 10

Today's Wordle #1697 Hints And Answer For Tuesday, February 10
Source: Forbes

Tuesday is named after the god, Tyr, probably the least well-known of the Norse and Germanic gods that serve as namesakes for four of the seven days of the week in English. Tyr for Tuesday, Odin for Wednesday, Thor for Thursday and Freya for Friday. Saturday is named after the Roman god, Saturn. Sunday and Monday, for the sun and moon. Gods and emperors fill our days and months. Interesting that weeks never got their own names. The first week of February doesn't have a name that differentiates it from the second or third and so forth.

I digress. We have a Wordle to solve, and solve it we shall!

Today's Bonus Wordle

Now that we can create our own custom Wordles, I'm including a bonus Wordle with each daily Wordle guide. These can be 4 to 7 letters long. Hopefully this is a fun extra challenge.

Today's Bonus Custom Wordle is 7 letters long.

The hint: Conflagration.

The clue: This Wordle has a double letter.

How To Solve Today's Wordle

How To Play Wordle

Wordle is a daily word puzzle game where your goal is to guess a hidden five-letter word in six tries or fewer. After each guess, the game gives feedback to help you get closer to the answer:

  • Green: The letter is in the word and in the correct spot.
  • Yellow: The letter is in the word, but in the wrong spot.
  • Gray: The letter is not in the word at all.

Use these clues to narrow down your guesses. Every day brings a new word, and everyone around the world is trying to solve the same puzzle. Some Wordlers also play Competitive Wordle against friends, family, the Wordle Bot or even against me, your humble narrator. See rules for Competitive Wordle toward the end of this post.

Wordle Bot Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordle score with Wordle Bot right here.

SPATE left me with just 31 possible solutions and GROIN slashed that number down to just 2 (I should probably not write the words "groin" and "slashed" that close together...yeesh). I came up with SCENE and SENSE and didn't like either word. They both had double letters, were ridiculously similar . . . but SCENE only had one double letter and SENSE had two. Lucky for me, SCENE was the Wordle!

Competitive Wordle Score

If I'd had SCONE to choose from, I would have gone with that tasty treat, so I guess I lucked out to some degree. I get 1 point for guessing in three and 1 for beating the Bot. The Bot gets 0 points for guessing in four and -1 for losing to me. Our new February totals widen a smidge:

  • Erik: 10 points
  • Wordle Bot: -3 points

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points -- positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today's Wordle Etymology

Scene comes from Middle English scēne, borrowed via Old French scene from Latin scaena, meaning "stage" or "scene of a play." Latin took it from Greek skēnē, originally meaning "tent" or "temporary stage building," which later came to refer to the backdrop and then the action performed before it.
