The actor is celebrating nearly three and a half years of being sober and quitting drinking alcohol. During a Tuesday, Sept. 9 interview with Esquire, the Spiderman star, 29, briefly touched on his latest sobriety accomplishment.

"It feels amazing," he told the outlet. "A little bit like a brand-new identity almost."

He also spoke about the success of his non-alcoholic beer company, Bero, saying it's "going really well."

"I'm really proud of it. Every day we're making big steps in the right direction, and we're growing every day -- thinking of new ways to innovate and coming up with new ideas for products," he added.

"We have some exciting stuff that we're developing for the winter of this year and the summer of next year, which I'm really excited about," Holland said, before concluding that "it's an ever-changing, ever-growing process."

At the start of the year, Holland told Men's Health, "My problem was that I would have one drink and be fine, and then I would just go too far."

As he divulged more about his sobriety journey, he confessed that there were moments when he struggled with wanting alcohol. But his lawyer offered him "a really poignant piece of advice," telling Holland, "You'll never wake up the morning after a night out and wish you had a drink."

The actor started participating in Dry January in 2022, originally planning to abstain just for the month. However, his sobriety extended when he realized alcohol had become an essential part of his life.

"Every Friday after work was a write-off: Let's get drunk and have a good time. I didn't have bad experiences, but I would drink enough so that I would ruin my next day," the Spider-Man star said.

An "eye-opening moment" came was when he asked his younger brother to drive home from a party because Holland needed to drink to enjoy himself, Holland recalled. "It's really helpful when the people closest to you start going, 'Are you sure?' "

Holland has been open about his journey, noting he had on-set challenges while filming the Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room in May 2022.

"There was quite a lot of animosity on that set. It was not a very harmonious place, and there was a lot of arguing and butting heads," he said. "I thought, 'If I start drinking again now, with all this going on, it's gonna get worse, right?' "

Holland did not go to rehab, but he was able to find a support system from his family, friends, old and new colleagues, and "people that reached out that [he] didn't know who also were sober."

In the early days of his journey, he appeared on a July 2023 episode of the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, and said his decision to get sober was "the best thing [he's] ever done."

"I could sleep better. I could handle problems better," he remembered. "Things that would go wrong on set, that would normally set me off, I could take in my stride. I had such better mental clarity. I felt healthier; I felt fitter."
