Trump's Vision for Gaza: A New Monaco?
By Katelyn Caralle, Senior U.S. Political Reporter In Washington, D.C.
Donald Trump said that if he gets back into office, he could help develop war-torn Gaza into a place "better than Monaco" and "the best thing in the Middle East." The former president told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt that Gaza has some of the best land and waters in the Middle East and claims he could make it an oasis in the aftermath of war.
Gaza is in shambles amid ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas terrorists operating out of the Palestinian enclave. Monday marks the one-year anniversary of terrorists invading Israel and carrying out the largest single-day massacre of Jewish people since the Holocaust. Thousands of Palestinians have been killed in the crosshairs of war, and much of its structures have been reduced to rubble.
"You know how to build things. Gaza is in ruins," Hewitt noted in an interview with the former president. "Could Gaza be Monaco if it was rebuilt the right way? Could someone make Gaza into something that all the Palestinian people would be proud of, would want to live in, would benefit them?"
Trump insisted: "It could be better than Monaco. It has the best location in the Middle East, the best water, the best everything," he continued. "It's got, it is the best, I've said it for years. You know, I've been there, and it's rough. It's a rough place, before the, you know, before all of the attacks and before the back and forth what's happened over the last couple of years."
- Monaco is a tiny European nation on the Mediterranean Sea known for its crystal blue waters, idyllic scenery, and its famous area of Monte Carlo.
- After The Vatican, Monaco is the smallest sovereign nation in the world.
- Like Monaco, Gaza rests on the waters of the Mediterranean.
Hewitt proposed that Trump could make Gaza into another sort of Monaco if he becomes president again and is able to end the war between Israel and Hamas.
"I mean, they have the back of a plant facing the ocean, you know. They'd have, there was no ocean as far as that was concerned. They never took advantage of it," Trump said.
"You know, as a developer, it could be the most beautiful place - the weather, the water, the whole thing, the climate," he continued. "It could be so beautiful. It could be the best thing in the Middle East, but it could be one of the best places in the world."
Trump believes that Abraham Accord partners in the Middle East could help him with rebuilding Gaza. The accords were agreements reached between Israel and the United Arab Emirates and Israel and Bahrain on September 15 where the two Middle Eastern nations recognized the Jewish State's sovereignty.
