Newsweek has reached out to the Maverick County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) for comment via email on Sunday.

So far this year, the nonprofit organization Gun Violence Archive (GVA) has tracked 321 mass shootings in the United States. Mass shootings are most often defined as an incident where at least four people are shot.

The Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino is one of the largest casinos in Texas and is located near the U.S.-Mexico border.

Deputies from the Maverick County Sheriff's Office arrived on site at the casino after midnight in response to a shooting, assisting tribal police on the matter.

The shooting reportedly came during a raffle that brought a large crowd to the scene.

Several people were shot, with one man pronounced dead at the scene. A woman died on the way to the hospital, according to the Eagle Pass News Leader. Local reports vary on how many people were shot, with News 4 San Antonio stating three to four others were airlifted due to injuries.

The suspect fled the scene and law enforcement officers were able to track the vehicle and take the suspect into custody, the Eagle Pass Police Department confirmed in a statement posted to Facebook. "A weapon was recovered and no DPS Troopers were harmed as the suspect was taken into custody with the use of a taser," the DPS said.

Maverick County Judge Ramsey English Cantú said in a Facebook post Sunday: "Our community has been shaken by the terrible news of the recent shooting that took place at the Kickapoo Casino parking lot. As your County Judge, it pains me deeply to see these horrific acts of violence occurring in our home.
Preliminary reports to our office from our Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber indicate that approximately seven individuals have been wounded and of those, one life has been tragically lost. My heart goes out to the victims, their families, and all who have been affected. We are ensuring that those involved are receiving the necessary care and attention."
Representative Tony Gonzales, a Texas Republican, wrote in an X post on Sunday: "Earlier this morning, a tragic shooting near Eagle Pass at the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino claimed the lives of two individuals and left several injured. Tribal, local, and state law enforcement agencies are working diligently to bring the suspect to justice."

Authorities have not released the suspect's identity but noted that law enforcement is "making arrangements to extradite him back to Eagle Pass."

Both local, state, and federal agencies are working on the case, including tribal police, Maverick County Sheriff's Department, Texas DPS, and Eagle Pass Police Department.
