Investing.com - U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrials, Consumer Goods and Technology sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.79% to hit a new 1-month high, while the S&P 500 index climbed 1.20%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 1.52%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Sherwin-Williams Co (NYSE:SHW), which rose 3.67% or 12.22 points to trade at 345.55 at the close. Meanwhile, Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) added 3.62% or 12.22 points to end at 349.40 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) was up 3.13% or 3.61 points to 119.07 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), which fell 2.16% or 4.07 points to trade at 183.99 at the close. Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) declined 0.49% or 0.23 points to end at 46.55 and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) was down 0.15% or 0.36 points to 234.18.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (NYSE:RCL) which rose 7.34% to 285.48, United Airlines Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:UAL) which was up 7.12% to settle at 101.80 and Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL) which gained 6.96% to close at 29.22.
The worst performers were LyondellBasell Industries NV (NYSE:LYB) which was down 11.98% to 66.27 in late trade, Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) which lost 10.83% to settle at 35.60 and Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX) which was down 9.72% to 97.31 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Energy Focu (NASDAQ:EFOI) which rose 210.53% to 6.49, Forum Markets, Inc (NASDAQ:FRMM) which was up 81.01% to settle at 4.29 and Beasley Broadcast Group Inc (NASDAQ:BBGI) which gained 53.64% to close at 21.51.
The worst performers were LZ Technology Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:LZMH) which was down 84.07% to 0.17 in late trade, Fitness Champs Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:FCHL) which lost 76.88% to settle at 0.36 and Cheetah Net Supply Chain Service Inc (NASDAQ:CTNT) which was down 40.73% to 0.10 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2094 to 669 and 50 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2438 rose and 920 declined, while 210 ended unchanged.
Shares in Energy Focu (NASDAQ:EFOI) rose to 3-years highs; up 210.53% or 4.40 to 6.49. Shares in LZ Technology Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:LZMH) fell to all time lows; losing 84.07% or 0.92 to 0.17. Shares in Beasley Broadcast Group Inc (NASDAQ:BBGI) rose to 52-week highs; rising 53.64% or 7.51 to 21.51. Shares in Cheetah Net Supply Chain Service Inc (NASDAQ:CTNT) fell to all time lows; falling 40.73% or 0.07 to 0.10.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 2.62% to 17.47 a new 1-month low.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.19% or 57.31 to $4,865.61 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 10.25% or 9.71 to hit $84.98 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 8.58% or 8.53 to trade at $90.86 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.14% to 1.18, while USD/JPY fell 0.36% to 158.64.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 98.02.
