We all try to put our best foot forward - but what do they really say about us?
From a protruding second toe symbolising 'strong leadership' to overlapping digits that imply a personal struggle for freedom, experts have shared what a person's feet can reveal.
Daisy Robinson, founder of holistic Reflexology practice Flow with Daisy, and Chinese medicine expert, Ada Ooi, shared their insights with the Daily Mail.
'Feet are often overlooked, but they can tell us a great deal about how someone moves through life - both physically and emotionally,' Daisy claimed.
'In reflexology, we view the feet as a map of the body, with different areas corresponding to organs and systems.
'While it's not about making absolute diagnoses, patterns in the feet can offer deep insight into lifestyle, stress levels and even personality tendencies.'

PROTRUDING TOES
PROTRUDING BIG TOE
'When looking at the feet and toes, each toe represents a different area of your inner life,' Daisy explained. 'For instance, the big toe represents the head and brain and so relevant to your thinking process and ability to express thoughts and ideas and even switch off... or not!'
Hence, it seems - the bigger the toe - the bigger the brain, with many believing it suggests creativity, strong opinions and confidence.
PROTRUDING SECOND TOE
Daisy said that those who have a longer or more prominent second toe - like Zendaya - are 'often associated with strong leadership tendencies'
She added: 'These individuals are typically driven, decisive and comfortable taking charge. They have a direct communication style'

She added: 'These individuals are typically driven, decisive and comfortable taking charge. They have a direct communication style.
'However, I often see tension in the upper foot in these clients, which can suggest they put a lot of pressure on themselves and may benefit from learning to switch off more.'
PROTRUDING MIDDLE TOE
According to Daisy, the middle toe relates to action and governs your 'do' or 'do not' energy and drive. One example includes Kates Moss
In podomancy - the belief that your feet are linked to your personality - it is called 'the Fire toe' and a longer one implies a fiesty, accomplished and career driven individual

PROTRUDING FOURTH TOE
'The fourth toe is linked to relationships and represents how you connect with others, love and your emotional attachment,' Daisy shared.
'If it is short, there is a lack there.'
PROTRUDING LITTLE TOE
Daisy said that the little toe 'symbolises your security in the world and your sense of trust'. Hence, a slightly separated or 'wiggling' one implies a restlessness and thirst for adventure. Those with this trait like to stray from the pact and form their own path.
BUNIONS
A bunion (hallux valgus) is a deformity of the big toe joint. The main sign is the big toe pointing towards, and sometimes overlapping, the other toes on the foot. This may force the outer bone of the big toe to stick out and a bump to form. The big toe joint may be swollen and painful, especially when wearing shoes.
The extent of pain varies and may not be reflected in the foot's appearance: some joints look normal but are painful and stiff, whereas more pronounced bunions can cause little pain.
And according to Daisy, it could imply a personality that puts others first.
'Someone with bunions can signify that you are doing too much for others and neglecting your own needs,' she shared.
TIGHTLY COMPRESSED TOES
'The way the toes sit can also be revealing when reading the feet,' Daisy said. Jennifer Aniston is one celebrity who has 'compressed' toes
Toes like Jennifer's that are tightly compressed 'may indicate someone who holds things in or feels restricted', Daisy said

'Toes that are tightly compressed may indicate someone who holds things in or feels restricted, whereas more naturally spaced toes are often seen in individuals who are more relaxed and open in their approach to life.'
OVERLAPPING TOES
According to Daisy, 'when toes cross over one another or overlap, it can signify a lack of personal freedom in ones life'.
This, she shared, is 'a physical manifestation of emotional internal "clutter".'
HIGH ARCHES
'People with high arches tend to be independent in nature,' Daisy said. Margot Robbie is known for this
Margot's impressive arch could be seen in the Barbie movie in 2023
'People with high arches tend to be independent in nature,' Daisy said.
'They often carry themselves through life relying on their own inner resources rather than leaning on others.
'From a physical perspective, high arches can also indicate a tendency to hold tension, particularly stress that isn't always outwardly expressed.
'This can lead to other problems in the feet (and body) later on in life if it is not addressed.'
FLAT FEET
According to Daisy's expertise, 'flat-footed clients are often very grounded and people-oriented'. One example is Kristen Stewart
'Physically, flat feet can sometimes suggest a need for greater structural support, both literally in the body and metaphorically in life,' Daisy said

'They tend to value connection, support and community, and are usually very loyal,' she continued.

DRY AND HARD SKIN
'Areas of hard skin or dryness often develop where there is repeated pressure or imbalance,' Daisy shared. Kate Bosworth has been seen with dry skin on her feet
In reflexology, these can correspond to parts of the body that may be overworked or under strain,

'In reflexology, these can correspond to parts of the body that may be overworked or under strain.
'For example, dryness or build up on the soles of the feet in the centre down to the heels can relate to the digestive system and abdomen or pelvis being overloaded and under stress with physical and or emotional pressure.'
SWOLLEN FEET
Chinese medicine expert Ada said that swelling in the feet is one of the key observations used when assessing fluid metabolism, which in the practice 'relates primarily to the function of the spleen, kidneys, and lungs'.
'The quality of the swelling is important,' she explained. 'If pressing into the skin leaves an indentation that lingers, this suggests slower fluid transformation and lower metabolic energy.
'When the skin appears taut, shiny, and rebounds more quickly, this reflects a more acute or excessive presentation.
'The location also gives context. Swelling around the ankles and heels is closely connected to the kidney system, whereas swelling that builds through the lower legs over the course of the day often reflects Spleen Qi deficiency and the accumulation of what we describe as "dampness".
'A sensation of heaviness in the legs, particularly when it worsens as the day progresses, is typically associated with this dampness.
'It reflects a reduced efficiency in how the body transports and transforms fluids, rather than fluid retention alone.'
COLD FEET
Ada said that changes in temperature and colour 'are also informative'.
'Feet that are consistently cold tend to reflect reduced circulation and lower "yang" energy,' she explained. 'In contrast, redness or a darker, purplish tone can suggest heat or "blood stasis", where circulation is not moving as smoothly as it should.
'When swelling is accompanied by visible heat, particularly across the top of the foot, this is often described as "damp-heat", a combination of fluid retention and inflammation.'
'TENDER' SOLES
'The soles of the feet are particularly significant, as they contain multiple channels that correspond to different internal systems,' Ada said.
'Areas of tenderness or sensitivity can reflect imbalance or strain elsewhere in the body. One point we often work with is Yongquan, or Kidney 1, located on the sole.
'It is used to support grounding, encourage circulation and help regulate the body's overall energy flow.'
