On the red carpet of the Golden Globes are Steven Speilberg, Emma Stone, Steve Martin, Martin Short ,Adam Brody, Leighton Meister and Jason Bateman.

Spoiler alert! This story includes details from Episodes 1 - 2 of HBO's "DTF St. Louis."

If Episode 1 was about setting the stage, Episode 2 of HBO's new dark comedy "DTF St. Louis" was all about action as the series takes viewers into the past and the beginning of Clark's (Jason Bateman) affair with his buddy Floyd's (David Harbour) wife Carol (Linda Cardellini).

The affair appears to be harmless initially, but when Floyd, "an ASL interpreter striving to be a good stepdad," is found dead at a community pool three miles from his house with a risqué magazine next to him, things take a turn and Clark, a successful weatherman "struggling with the banality of middle age and a sparkless marriage," is arrested.

It doesn't help that Clark introduced Floyd to DTF, which stands for "down to (expletive)," a dating app intended for those who are looking to "spice up" their married lives after his tryst with Carol ended.

HBO says the show is about a "love triangle between three adults experiencing middle-age malaise that leads to one of them ending up dead."

"DTF St. Louis" creator Steven Conrad told People the show was inspired by his own personal experiences when he began to see people around him "feel emotional desperation and then make bad decisions" in their middle age.
"I'm in my middle age, and most of my friends are too, and somehow or another it's another phase of life where people make terrible decisions," Conrad told the media outlet. "The first one's 14, and no one wants to live through that again. But that same misguided, desperate need to fit in or to find someone to feel safe comes back around in middle age and can lead to bad decision-making."
