The Andaz hotel Miami Beach only opened in May 2025, so it feels fresh and shiny. The rooms contain all the essentials, including Byredo toiletries, but tea-drinkers be sure to ask for a kettle. Most rooms have a balcony - ones overlooking the beach offer a front-row seat for the sunrise over the sea. There's no fighting for sun loungers with two heated pools, and the Ondara Spa is the place to relax. British Airways Holidays offers three nights from £949pp between 1 and 31 May 2026.

The restaurants Dinner at the hotel's restaurant, Aguasal, is worth it for elevated Mediterranean food (below). Visit Bayside for a strong selection of bars, restaurants and shops, plus one of the best piña coladas I've ever had at La Cañita. Donatella on Collins Avenue is the spot for a romantic low-lit Italian feast, and discover what Mexican food should really taste like at Bakan near Wynwood Walls. Havana 1957 is great for authentic Cuban food, including tamales and pork masitas.

The beach Take a day to chill on South Beach: the sea is welcomingly warm, the sand clean and soft. Stroll along the coastal Boardwalk to pass through the Art Deco District and hit the famous Muscle Beach (for a workout, or merely to observe). Watersports are also on offer along the coast. Get the most out of the sun and sea by visiting Miami between January and May for optimal weather. Avoid June and July when it's usually far too hot.

The neighbourhoods There's much more to Miami than the obvious Ocean Drive. Find photo ops aplenty at Wynwood Walls, the first open-air graffiti museum in the world. Little Havana - Calle Ocho (8th street) in particular - is a must-visit to enjoy the city's Cuban culture. It's full of shops where you can try Cuban coffee and cigars, and you can even watch a game among the seniors in the famous Domino Park. Coconut Grove is a hotspot for shopping and brunch.

The tours Go for a ride on the Thriller speedboat tour (from £32), which goes up to 40mph and features amazing shoreline views of Downtown Miami, Miami Beach and Star Island mansions. The tour guide will point out the houses that belong to celebrities such as Oprah. Get to know Miami beyond its party reputation by exploring lesser-known but historic neighbourhoods such as Coral Gables and Coconut Grove (below) with Dragonfly Expeditions (from £49).

The art scene Even if you're not into art, a walking tour with the Miami Design Preservation League (from £30) will have you admiring the city in new ways. It starts on Ocean Drive, where you'll dip in and out of buildings, learning the history of art deco and its impact on Miami. Even British Airways has jumped on the art deco bandwagon with its renovation of the lounge at Miami Airport, part of a £7 billion project to transform its lounges. Return flights to London from £389.
