Prince Louis, 7, wasn't present when his parents, Kate Middleton and Prince William, and elder siblings, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, attended the gentlemen's singles final of Wimbledon on July 13. Kensington Palace announced ahead of their arrival that the Prince and Princess of Wales would attend the competition, and it was a surprise that they brought George and Charlotte along.
At 7 years old, Prince Louis is still younger than his big brother, Prince George, 11, and sister, Princess Charlotte, 10, were when they attended Wimbledon for the first time. Prince George first attended the athletic event in 2022, taking in the men's final with Princess Kate and Prince William before getting a chance to hold Novak Djokovic's trophy shortly before his 9th birthday. Princess Charlotte was also 8 for her Wimbledon debut in 2023.
Prince Louis may be spending a solo day at home with the family's beloved longtime nanny, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, or his grandparents, Carole and Michael Middleton. It's thought that Louis shares a special bond with Princess Kate's parents and shouted them out in a special message at Kate's fourth annual Together at Christmas carol service in December 2024.
"Thank you to Granny and Grandpa because they have played games with me," Prince Louis' handwritten note for the "Kindness Tree" read.
Following their arrival at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, Prince William, Princess Kate and their elder two children took a seat in the Royal Box at Centre Court. Although the Royal Box is typically off-limits to kids, given the high demand for a spot in one of the 74 seats, exceptions are made for royal children.
Despite his young age, Prince Louis has attended several major royal events, including Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022 and his grandfather King Charles' coronation in May 2023.
No matter the event, the prince's playful nature shines through. At Trooping the Colour last month, he charmed the crowds with his smiles and waves during the horse-drawn carriage ride through London and on the Buckingham Palace balcony. Although his antics regularly delight the internet, Prince George and Princess Charlotte are there to help their little brother learn the royal ropes, even correcting him at points during the day.
The Princess of Wales' outing at Wimbledon continued one of her summer traditions. As the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club—a role she received from Queen Elizabeth in 2016—Kate usually attends the tournament several times each year and awards the trophies to the winners.
