The Untamed showrunners have teased that the show could move to a different national park if renewed for a season 2.
The Netflix limited series stars Eric Bana as investigative services branch ranger Kyle Turner, who is on the trail of a killer in Yosemite National Park.
While hunting for the murderer, Kyle uncovers secrets from the disturbing underbelly of the park and confronts the darkness from his own past. In addition to Bana, other members of Untamed's cast include Sam Neill, Lily Santiago, Wilson Bethel and Rosemarie DeWitt.
"Everyone thinks of Yosemite as this beautiful place with all the vistas and all the scenery, but we were trying to touch on the dangers that are just beyond that," co-showrunner Mark L. Smith told Tudum in July 2025. "It really gets down to the character and what they can find within themselves."
While Untamed is a limited series, viewers who have watched all six episodes can't help but wonder what could be next for agent Turner, including whether another national park mystery is on the horizon for him.
Even though Untamed season 2 has not been confirmed, Bana and the series' creators have teased what might be ahead. Here's what to know about a potential second installment.
Warning: Untamed spoilers ahead!
Throughout the series, Turner is trying to solve the mystery of the death of a girl who fell from El Capitan. It is revealed that the victim, Lucy, was the daughter of Chief Paul Souter (Neill). She was the result of a past affair Souter had, and when she returned to his life, he tried to keep her at arm's length.
Eventually, Souter confronted Lucy at gunpoint in the park, shooting her in the leg. But she escaped and ran to the peak of El Capitan, where she jumped instead of getting captured. After Souter confessed to the crime, he died by suicide with a gun and subsequently fell into the same river.
Another mystery involved Turner's son, Caleb. In the series, Turner often talked to his son, who turned out to have died years ago. Caleb was killed in the park, and it was Turner's ex-wife, Jill (DeWitt), who then arranged to have her son's murderer killed by Maguire (Bethel).
After solving the case of Lucy's death and finding closure from the death of his son, Turner packs up his things. He gives his horse and Caleb's collection of toy cars to Vasquez (Santiago), and leaves Yosemite in his rearview mirror.
Untamed season 2 has not been confirmed. The thriller is billed as a limited series, but that hasn't stopped other shows like Shōgun from returning with more episodes.
Untamed debuted on July 17 on Netflix and has been a hit with viewers, hitting No. 1 on the top TV shows in the U.S.
In July 2025, when asked about the possibility of Untamed season 2, Bana told Variety, "We'll have to wait and see."
"We spoke about what would happen to Kyle after this, in theory," he continued. "So you never know."
During an interview with TV Insider, when the subject of another installment came up, the Australian actor admitted, "I haven't given too much thought on this, to be honest."
If Untamed does return for season 2, the showrunners have teased how they would like to see the action moved to a different outdoor setting.
"They go to different national parks and they do travel from park to park and case to case and things like that," co-showrunner Elle Smith told TV Insider in July 2025. "So I think that's what was interesting to us, and if we got the opportunity to do it again, it would be getting to explore a different park, a different case."
She added, "We would do this forever if they let us, but we'll see. We'll see how many adventures Turner has left in him."
Santiago, who plays park ranger Vasquez, told the outlet, "In a season 2, I want more solving of murders. Honestly, I would love for her to get called up to go to a different place, like bring me to a mountain in Hawaii."
"I'm hoping that it's new murder, new location, wilderness challenges, and new things to learn," she continued. "Because I really love Naya's mind. I love watching how she figures out new terrain."
