A woman appeared in court this morning charged with the murder of a mother whose body was found in a garden 15 years after she vanished.
Izabela Zablocka last made contact with her family in Poland on August 28, 2010 and despite their best efforts to trace her, she was never found.
This morning Anna Podedworna, 39, appeared before Southern Derbyshire magistrates charged with murder, preventing a lawful and decent burial and perverting the course of justice.
A murder inquiry was launched at the end of last month following information that came to light in connection with the then 30-year-old Ms Zablocka's disappearance.
Human remains, believed to be the Polish mother's, were then found in a garden of a property in Princes Street, Normanton, Derby, on Sunday.
The court heard the murder said to have taken place between August and October 2010, and the other charges between August 2010 and June 1 this year.
Podedworna, who was wearing a grey sweater, grey jogging bottoms and glasses and followed proceedings via an interpreter, spoke only to confirm her details during the brief hearing.
There was no application for bail, and Podedworna, of Boyer Street, Derby, was remanded in custody to appear at Derby Crown Court on Monday.
Izabela Zablocka, 30, moved to Britain in 2009 and lived in Normanton, Derby. She last had contact with her family in Poland in August 2010
Police forensic tents were erected in the garden of a house on Princes Street in Normanton, where human remains were uncovered
Jeremy Wray, chair of the magistrates' bench, told her: 'This court has no powers to grant bail in cases such as this, so you will be remanded in custody until June 9 when you will appear at Derby Crown Court.'
Ms Zablocka, a Polish national, moved to the UK in 2009, lived on Princes Street and worked at the former Cranberry Foods Turkey and Chicken Factory in nearby Scropton.
She had a daughter, Katarzyna Zabłocka, who is now 24.
In total five people have been taken into custody as part of a murder probe launched two weeks ago.
Two other women aged 39 and 43, and two men aged 41 and 48, were arrested on suspicion of murder and all remain on police bail pending further inquiries.
Samanatha Shallow, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor in the East Midlands, said in an earlier statement: 'Following a review of the evidence provided by Derbyshire Constabulary, we have authorised criminal charges in relation to the death of Izabela Zablocka.
'Ms Zablocka went missing in August 2010, when she was aged 30. Her body was recovered in Derby on 1 June 2025.
'Our thoughts remain with the family of Ms Zablocka at this time.'
