A woman has revealed that she was able to pay off her college debt after raking in tens of thousands of dollars in donations by pretending to be a MAGA supporter.
The woman - who is known online as @chckpeasm and in published stories as Quran - went viral in 2018 after she claimed that her parents 'cut her off' and 'refused to pay her university tuition' after she had come forward as a Donald Trump supporter.
At the time, she shared a GoFundMe link and asked for donations, adding, 'If you find it in your hearts to help this young, black republican pay for school it would be appreciated.'
But after wracking up a slew of donations, Quran told Elle magazine that it was all a lie and she wasn't actually a Trump fan at all... and her move was branded as the 'scam of the year' at the time.
Now, her story has gone viral once again after someone on X, formerly known as Twitter, re-shared her old posts in response to a prompt that read: 'No gatekeepers please/what's a side hustle that you feel like more people should know about?'
And amidst it re-emerging, Quran gave an update, revealing just how lucrative her now-viral Tweet really was.
She claimed the money 'helped her finish school debt free, move to Los Angeles,' and launch her career.
'Still a big shoutout to the trump supporters who helped me finish school (debt free), move to Los Angeles, and prove myself in social media and marketing psychology which in turn spearheaded my career,' the social media professional shared in a new post.
A woman has revealed that she was able to pay off her college debt after raking in tens of thousands of dollars in donations by pretending to be a MAGA supporter.
In the original post shared to X in October 2018, Quran posted a snap of herself wearing a red Make America Great Again bucket hat.
'I will not hide any longer,' she captioned it. 'The left has made us feel as if us black Republicans should hide. But not anymore.'
She added the hashtag "#BlacksForTrump' and '#MAGA,' along with a link to a GoFundMe page.
Quran then claimed that her parents had cut her off financially after seeing her posts, writing: 'Thank you all so much for your overwhelming support.'
'After seeing this tweet my parents cut me off and refuse to pay my university tuition.
'So if you can find it in your hearts to help this young, black Republican pay for school it would be appreciated.'
She also shared alleged text messages between herself and her mom, in which she begged, 'Where should I go?'
While her posts were initially met with enthusiastic users donating to her cause, the truth quickly came to light less than a day later, with Quran admitting she made the whole thing up.
After wracking up a slew of donations, Quran told Elle magazine that it was all a lie and she wasn't actually a Trump fan at all.
She told Elle at the time that she collected 'in the neighborhood of $150,000' from the lie.
While chatting with the publication, she said she did it because she wanted to bring attention to the 2018 election.
'Voting is coming up so I just wanted to remind people that Republicans are stupid and shouldn't hold the majority anymore,' she shared.
'Minimum wage is pathetically low and it's not a living wage either so how are we supposed to survive?'
'And then the people who say "go to college and get a better job," like anyone can afford that, and it won't guarantee you a job either,' she added.
She added that her initial post was meant as a 'joke,' explaining, 'I saw that other black girl that posted about being a black Trump supporter and I wanted to make fun of her.'
While she initially claimed she gave the money back, Quran later admitted that she also made that part of the 'narrative' up so she didn't get 'weirdos' harassing her.
