One woman got the surprise of a lifetime when she found out she was pregnant just one week before learning her mom is pregnant, too.

The woman details the situation in a post shared on Reddit, writing, "I found out I was pregnant earlier this year with my first baby, a little boy and at first, it felt really special. I'm 23, and this is my parents' first grandchild after raising five daughters."

"I thought this was going to be a big, beautiful turning point in our family like I was stepping into motherhood and they were stepping into their next chapter as grandparents," she writes. "But now my mom who's almost 44... is also pregnant."

The woman writes that she already has a large family, with one older sibling and three younger sisters, including one who is 6 years old.

"There's already a 17-year age gap between me and the youngest. On top of that, they live in a multi-family household: two of my adult sisters still share a room, and the younger two sleep in my parents' bedroom. Space is tight. Privacy is basically nonexistent. There's no room physically or emotionally for another baby," she writes.

She continues: "What makes this worse is that my mom had two losses in 2022 and 2023, and now after I told my family I was pregnant, my siblings noticed she suddenly stopped taking birth control. Now she’s expecting again."

The woman adds that she feels as if once she shared her own pregnancy news, her own parents decided to "try and overshadow me."

"It makes me feel weird almost like she’s competing with me instead of focusing on becoming grandparents and helping me adjust to motherhood," she writes.

She continues: "On top of that, I feel like I can’t be excited or share anything about my pregnancy with my mom. When I was talking about my plans for a baby shower she told me not to plan anything because I never know what could happen. This made me very upset because I know what she was insinuating, and I already have bad anxiety about my pregnancy."

Other Reddit users are weighing in, with some arguing the poster is being overly critical of her mother.

Writes one Reddit user: "If your mom found out she was pregnant literally a week after you, she was ALREADY pregnant when you had a positive test. If that's the actual timing and not hyperbole, this timing could not possibly have had anything to do with you."
"To put this kindly- your mom's family planning decisions are not about you," the commenter continues. "Your mom has a 6-year-old; she was actively trying to conceive in 2023. Yes, it's unusual to be pregnant at the same time as your mom, but it sounds like she wanted another baby completely apart from anything you did or didn't do with your own family."
