Health giant Erewhon has unveiled a new 'world's healthiest smoothie' that claims to boost longevity.

As US life expectancy falls behind peer nations and chronic conditions like obesity, diabetes and cancer surge, Americans are constantly looking for new ways to increase their lifespan.

But as over 70 percent of the US food supply is ultra-processed, most Americans are loading up on artificial additives rather than scientifically proven, whole foods.

With this in mind, California-based grocery store chain Erewhon and Function Health have launched the 'World's Healthiest Smoothie.'

Produced in collaboration with Dr Mark Hyman, a longevity expert and founder of Function Health and the Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine, the $100 smoothie will be on Erewhon shelves from Tuesday, February 17, through February 2027.

It contains 20 'purpose-driven ingredients selected to support foundational biological systems,' according to a press release. These include unsweetened almond milk, flaxseed and chia, green banana, beet juice and cinnamon, among others.

The companies claim the ingredients support microbiome health, inflammation, blood sugar stability and cellular function, all of which can impact chronic disease risk.

The drink also comes with a QR code on the tag that offers $25 off a Function membership, which grants access to advanced blood tests and scans, as well as personalized health insights. The membership normally costs $365 per year.

'This isn't about one more product on a shelf. We are challenging the idea that "healthy" can be reduced to a label,' Jonathan Swerdlin, co-founder and CEO of Function, said.
'Health isn't one-size-fits-all. It's personal, nuanced, and different for everyone. Erewhon was the perfect partner. Their uncompromising standards mirror how Function treats understanding your health.
Together, we make it possible for you to be intentional around what you put in your body.'

The smoothie contains unsweetened almond milk, flaxseed and chia, green banana, wild blueberries, pomegranate, cranberry, arugula, fresh herbs, walnuts, cold-pressed beet juice, ginger and Ceylon cinnamon, which is milder than traditional cinnamon.

These ingredients are packed with antioxidants, compounds that protect the body's cells from damage caused by unstable molecules called free radicals. These have been shown to reduce inflammation and boost immune health.

The smoothie also contains omega oils, MCT oil, a fat supplement derived from coconut or palm kernel oil, and branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), nutrients shown to boost muscle growth and reduce fatigue.

Additionally, the companies point to creatine, a compound found in muscle and brain tissue that produces energy and is typically taken to improve exercise performance, as well as 'a single-ingredient plant protein derived from chocho beans grown at high altitudes in the Andes.'

The brands also claim the smoothie has no fillers.

The smoothie will be available at all 10 of Erewhon's locations, located in southern California, and online.
