A California driver says he was violently pulled from his car and beaten in a terrifying road rage attack - as stunned motorists looked on but did nothing to help.
Adam Berry told CBS Los Angeles the assault happened on September 23 along La Cienega Boulevard, near Baldwin Hills in Los Angeles, after a routine attempt to pass a slow-moving truck turned into a nightmare.
Berry said he went around the slow-moving truck since there were three open lanes, saying he didn't honk, gesture, or act in a confrontational way.
Moments later, the truck driver - towing a Toyota Camry - allegedly pulled up beside Berry and unleashed a tirade of anti-gay slurs and expletives.
'I roll my window down and he starts screaming at me,' Berry recalled. 'I do remember processing, I should probably not be sticking around for this.'
Berry said the suspect hurled homophobic language before attacking him. Police have not yet said whether they are investigating the incident as a hate crime.
Trying to get away, Berry weaved through traffic until he reached La Cienega and Obama Boulevard.
Thinking he was in the clear, he stopped - only for the man to return and kick in his driver's side mirror.

Berry said he managed to take photos of the suspect and his license plate after the assault before the man drove off
'Next thing I know, a hand reaches in and opens my door and pulls me out of the car,' Berry said.
The suspect threw him to the ground and beat him repeatedly while traffic came to a standstill.
'All lanes of cars were stopped,' Berry said. 'Everyone's just sitting there watching. No one really got out, as far as I could see. I think everyone was pretty freaked out.'
When Berry tried to take a picture for police, the man came back and punched him three more times.
'I’m trying to wipe the blood off of my phone and get a good shot that’s usable for the police,' he said. 'I can’t get the blood off in time. He comes back, and I get about three more hits to the head.'
The suspect eventually fled, but traffic allowed Berry to snap a photo of the man and his license plate before he drove off.
Police said the attacker was gone by the time officers arrived but confirmed a felony battery report had been filed. Paramedics took Berry to the hospital to treat a gash to his chin and bruises to his forehead.
Two weeks later, Berry said he's still shaken and wants the suspect caught - but he also reflected on the growing tension he feels on LA's roads.

'I’ve never had anything like that happen in my life,' he said. 'I just feel like there’s a lot of heat, a lot of hate ... I just wish that this stuff would stop because this is a really beautiful community.'
Police say the suspect remains at large as their investigation continues.
