Nepo babies sweeping the showbiz world is nothing new.

However on Monday night they proved the power of their starry status once again as both Nicole Kidman and Beyonce flouted the Met Gala age restrictions so their daughters Sunday Rose and Blue Ivy could appear at the event.

While stars including Jaden and Willow Smith, El Fanning and Hailee Steinfeld previously attended the ceremony as teens, in 2018 Anna Wintour, the Met Gala chair, prohibited under 18s from attending after several younger stars were turned away.

Dance Moms alum Maddie Ziegler publicised the rule when she told reporters she was unable to attend as she was too young.

Organisers then told The Hollywood Reporter that 'it's not an appropriate event for people under 18' and that the decision was made by Vogue.

However, after almost a decade it appears an exception to the rule was made on Monday night as Sunday Rose, 17, and Blue Ivy, 14, joined their famous mums on the red carpet.

It seems to be no coincidence that both Nicole and Beyonce were co-chairs at this year's Met and were able to sway Anna's decision as both their daughters are already carving out a successful career in the spotlight.

With Sunday Rose sowing the seeds for a high flying modelling career, and Blue Ivy taking to world by storm on her mum's global tour, could Anna Wintour be making an exception for the next generation of mega stars?

Power of the moms and their nepo babies: How Nicole Kidman and Beyonce persuaded Anna Wintour to change the Met Gala rules as they were allowed to bring their teenage daughters as guests

It seems to be no coincidence that both Nicole and Beyonce were co-chairs at this year's Met and their daughters are both already carving out a career in the spotlight.

Just shy of 18, Sunday Rose is due to celebrate her birthday in July and is the eldest daughter of actress Nicole and country singer Keith Urban.

Despite her 'overprotective' dad allegedly wanting her to hold off from entering the fashion industry until she's older, she has been modelling since she was 16.

The aspiring model made her runway debut during Paris Fashion Week in 2024 for Miu Miu's Spring/Summer show.

And Sunday had Vogue's backing from the off, after the fashion bible declared: 'So what does this mean for Sunday Rose Kidman-Urban? Come the Fall 2025 collections in February, I'd wager we're in for a month of Sundays.'

A source added that Sunday Rose was pushing Nicole to be allowed to attend the red carpet events, and her nudges seem to have paid off.

Following this, she landed a major campaign for watchmaker Omega and a three-month campaign with Miu Miu.

Dior creative director Jonathan Anderson also chose the Nashville-born model to walk in his debut womenswear show and appear in his first coed campaign.

She also presented him with the Designer of the Year prize at the British Fashion Awards.

In March Sunday showed off her strut at the Calvin Klein Fall 2026 show as she walked the runway in an oversized beige trench coat with large brown leather lapels, worn over a buttoned-up shirt.

While Sunday has faced scrutiny that she has only got where she is because of her famous mum, Nicole was endlessly proud of the teen as she reshared a video of her daughter walking during the show to Instagram, writing: 'New York Baby.'

And the star has clearly been building up her list of fashion contacts as she arrived at the Met wearing a pink-and lavender Dior gown with a boxy strapless bodice and flowing skirt.

She joined her mum Nicole, who wore a floor-sweeping Chanel gown in ruby red with feather trimmings.

Speaking about her dress, Nicole referred to her daughter as a 'springtime blossoming girl' as she gushed that the 17-year-old had been 'so calm' in the run up to the event.

'For me, fashion is art. I wanted something red because I wanted to embrace the way in which red has been used in art through the years,' she told Vogue.
'I feel that it's a strong symbol for love, for passionate love, vitality, for power and motherhood -- and I have a springtime blossoming girl here.'

Sunday added: 'I wanted to symbolize something blooming. It's my first Met.'

Elsewhere Blue Ivy has taken the world by storm after performing on stages all over the world during Beyonce's Cowboy Carter Tour.

Spending her entire life in the spotlight, she was dubbed 'the most famous baby in the world' by Time magazine just two days after she was born in 2012.

In 2018, she went viral after the then-six-year-old was caught ordering her mum and dad to stop clapping during Havana singer Camila Cabello's speech about the importance of Dreamer children.

And in 2021 she delighted fans with an appearance in the promotional material for her mother, Beyoncé's Ivy Park x Adidas.

That same year she became the second-youngest Grammy winner in the history of the Recording Academy after she won her first Grammy Award for Best Music Video for Brown Skin Girl.

Blue was credited as a songwriter and contributed vocals to the track of her mother's 2019 album The Lion King: The Gift, as well as staring in the music video.

Blue has also received a number of other awards, with her first in 2019: The Ashford & Simpsons Songwriter's Award at the Soul Train Music Awards for co-writing her and mom Beyonce's song Brown Skin Girl.

Blue Ivy became the youngest winner at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2021 at the age of nine as the Brown Skin Girl music video won the Moon Man trophy for best cinematography.

And during both the Renaissance tour and the Cowboy Carter tour, Blue became a constant figure on stage as one of the main dancers, performing to sell out stadiums at just 11 years-old.

Speaking at the Met Gala, Beyonce gushed it was 'surreal' to attend the event with Blue Ivy and her husband Jay-Z.

She told Vogue on the magazine's livestream: 'It feels surreal because my daughter's here.

'She looks so beautiful. It's incredible to be able to share with her; I think she looks so incredible.'

The Crazy In Love singer opted for a crystal skeleton gown paired with sparkling crown and an ombre feather cape by Olivier Rousteing, and accessorised with Chopard jewellery, including an 18-carat white gold necklace featuring a 6.41-carat brilliant-cut diamond and a further 140 carats of diamonds.

But once inside, she changed into a black and gold gown with matching veil.

Meanwhile, Blue Ivy wore a white strapless Balenciaga gown with a voluminous skirt and train, which she paired with an unzipped jacket, sunglasses, and silver stilettos.

So, as two of the co-chairs flout the rules, this could open the to flood gates to more young stars gracing the Met red carpet in the coming years.
