Yesterday's Times headlined Army and National Guard enrollment. It's why women in uniform is my second column on it.

An unearthed long ago letter says in part:

"Army Reserve offers same promotion, pay increases, benefits and skill training in hundreds of fields -- data processing, communication, information, finance, supply, administration, medical care, laboratory, air traffic control, draftsmanship, traffic analysis. Exception only -- combat duty training.
"With no prior military experience, they learn skills that may acquire well-paid civilian jobs."

Mentioned was an Army reservist, now a licensed practical nurse. A commanding officer at the 80th Training Command. A Fort Dix mechanics school grad now in a hospital center. An Army Terminal stevedore officer who'd previously been an organist. A grandma graduate of the marine engineer course.

Two weeks' annual training with full pay. One year in their Army Reserve unit adds more money to their income.

Raised negative voices claim personal problems push people into this. One decides to stop teaching. Another's unhappy with her love life. Often said is "They're looking for guys" or "They tend to be masculine."

Heard is "Guys don't want more of this. They resist it. They horse around. They want to get away from these wives."

Handsome Jack Schlossberg -- only grandson of JFK and Jackie and son of Caroline and Ed Schlossberg -- joined the Lexington Democratic Club's Fall Social.

Born in 1993 in NYC, he's a writer and political commentator. FYI: His father's an Ashkenazi Jew, and descendent of Ukraine. He was also ring bearer in the wedding of his uncle JFK Jr. to Carolyn Bessette.

Raised Catholic, his mother would hold Hanukkah celebrations. The kid attended Yale, worked as a DC intern and specialized in history.

This left wing gala was in what's called Sojourn Social in the Upper East Side's 12th Congressional District. The place was packed with whatever goes for the word "Democrat" these days. No happy crowd. Unhappy Dems meeting cranky Dems over cold stiff snacks courtesy of the Lex Club. The bar? Being cheapos, cash only.

Donna Karan is into eternity. At the Hamptons Film Fest she said: "I want to be with my husband. He's there already so I say, 'Honey, I want to come be with you' " . . . WAIT! Now a movie I know you're all panting for. "Roofman." It's about breaking into a McDonald's. I mean, like for what? A three-day-old stiff apple pie? Channing Tatum, who's in the thing, says: "It's about a true story of someone unbelievably talented at lying." OK. I know I won't want to miss it. Thanks for helping.

NYC authorities -- who now don't have enough troubles with the mayoralty -- are faced with another problem. The marriage and dating problem. Behavior specialists are trying everything to combat our current awful virus bug. Things are suddenly worse than when we were all wearing masks. So far the only luck they've had in shutting down this current ailment is to have specialists install the new "Forget it, I'm not ready for a commitment" virus.
