Roundup: Playoff pairings announced for boys basketball, boys and girls hockey

BRATTLEBORO -- The pairings for this year's Vermont high school boys basketball along with boys and girls hockey playoffs were announced this weekend, and starting on Tuesday there will be a number of local teams in action at the Division 1 through Division 4 levels.

In the Division 1 boys basketball tournament, No. 9 Brattleboro will travel to face No. 8 Mount Mansfield in the play down round on Tuesday. Tip off for that game is set for 7 p.m. The winner of that contest will face No. 1 Rice on the road in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

In the Division 3 boys basketball tournament, No. 12 Bellows Falls will travel to face No. 5 Vergennes in the play down round on Wednesday. Tip off for that game is scheduled for 7 p.m. The winner of that contest will take on the winner of No. 4 Winooski and No. 13 Windsor in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

In the Division 4 boys basketball tournament, No. 5 Twin Valley is scheduled to host No. 12 Poultney in the play down round on Wednesday. Tip off for that game is scheduled for 7 p.m. The winner of that contest will take on the winner of No. 4 Mount St. Joseph and No. 13 Grace Christian in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

In the Division 2 boys hockey tournament, No. 12 Brattleboro will travel to face No. 5 Middlebury in the play down round on Wednesday. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m. The winner of that game will face No. 4 Stowe on the road in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

In the Division 2 girls hockey tournament, No. 9 Brattleboro will travel to face No. 8 Stowe in the play down round on Tuesday. Puck drop is set for 5:15 p.m. The winner of that game will face No. 1 U-32 on the road in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Bears fall to Mount Mansfield in quarterfinals

JERICHO -- The No. 8 Brattleboro girls basketball team was defeated by No. 1 Mount Mansfield 48-33 in the Division 1 quarterfinals on the road Friday to end its season. The Bears finish their campaign with a 10-12 record and defeated No. 9 Colchester 55-47 at home in the play down round on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals.

Brattleboro bowling team falls in first round of state tournament

BARRE -- The No. 9 Brattleboro bowling team fell in the first round of the team state championship 4-1 to No. 8 Burlington on Saturday, marking the end of its season.

Brattleboro lost the first two rounds of the best 4 out of 7 Baker style matches 170-112 and 153-137 to fall into a 2-0 hole. However, Brattleboro would rebound by winning the third round 142-129 to trail 2-1. But Brattleboro would drop the next two rounds 165-94 and 158-130 and be eliminated from the tournament.

This marks the end of the campaign for Brattleboro, who will now turn the page and look to continue improving next season.

Wildcats wrap up regular season with win at Proctor

PROCTOR -- The Twin Valley boys basketball team defeated Proctor 75-40 on the road Thursday in its final regular season game before the start of the Division 4 playoffs.

Brayden Brown led the way for the Wildcats (16-4) with 26 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Landon Brown also had a strong game with 26 points and four steals. Brian Sullivan had 10 points for the Wildcats as well.

The Wildcats will shift their focus to Wednesday's home playoff game against Poultney as they begin their run in this year's Division 4 tournament.
