A violent gang ambush on an UberEats driver has triggered a police crackdown on the masked culprits responsible for the alleged daylight robbery.

The terrifying assault allegedly involved four offenders who targeted the delivery driver on Copeland Road, Penrith, about 4pm on Monday.

Footage of the attack shows the driver being ambushed by the group while stopped on his scooter at a set of traffic lights in the western Sydney suburb.

Two men on a white scooter are seen pulling up beside the delivery driver before one of the alleged perpetrators crash-tackles him to the ground.

The victim stands up and is circled by a third alleged offender on a motorbike as another man jumps on his delivery scooter and rides away.

The stunned UberEats driver stood in traffic as the gang fled. One suspect allegedly armed with a knife was arrested at the scene.

NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon condemned the brazen heist while speaking on Ben Fordham's 2GB show on Wednesday morning.

'A short time after the offence occurred, police observed a number of bikes. One of those bikes failed to take a bend and crashed,' Commissioner Lanyon said.

A masked offender knocked the man off his scooter during the alleged robbery

'A 16-year-old boy was arrested at the scene and taken to Penrith Police station. The bike that the 16-year-old was riding was the delivery driver's bike. The bike has since been recovered along with [the driver's] mobile phone.
'The 16-year-old has been charged with a range of offences including driving a conveyance without consent and armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.'

The teen has been granted bail and will appear in a children's court on December 15.

Commissioner Lanyon added the teen had been in 'possession of a knife' at the time and that investigators are still hunting for three other offenders.

Penrith local Nick, whose wife filmed the brazen alleged robbery, told Fordham the brazen heist had been over in seconds and was a 'well-executed operation'.

'The poor delivery driver is left shaking his head without a motorbike as the bad guys get away,' he said.
'For the life of me I couldn't believe it, this is Penrith we are talking about and at 4pm.'
'When I actually watched the footage, it shocked the beejeebers out of me.'
'My wife said she 'couldn't believe' what she was witnessing as she was sitting there, it's just amazing.'
'The brazenness of it... it's about time the police did something about them.'

'They're absolute scumbags, we know that Nick,' Fordham replied.

'It looks like a well coordinated play that's been organised by a top rugby league coach the way they pull it off.'
