Tesla's first semi-truck has officially hit the road, with a handful of drivers saying a key feature may have changed the industry.

Elon Musk's clean energy company will begin shipping its new semi-trucks this summer, with up to 15,000 expected to hit the road in 2026.

But some drivers have already gotten their hands on the vehicle and have given rave reviews for its off-the-wall features including a centered driving position.

The trucks also have rearview cameras and fast charging.

They are advertised as reaching a 60 percent battery capacity in just 30 minutes and travel 500 miles on a single charge.

Jennie Abarca is the CEO and co-founder of King Fio Trucking in Long Beach, California.

Having tried other electric semis before, she said she was impressed at the longevity of the Tesla.

'The Teslas change everything,' she said. 'It opens up a whole different type of delivery that I can make.'

Elon Musk and Tesla also announced plans for a network of EV chargers across the US

The two-door cab could cost up to $290,000 which is less than other electric semis on the market

Tesla initially announced its plan for a battery-powered semi-truck a decade ago, but a series of delays and refocuses hindered it from actually debuting on the road.

After its initial launch Tesla plans to up production to 50,000 per year, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Angel Rodriguez, 56, began driving the automatic Semi for a one-month test period and said the Tesla model was 'easier on your body.'

'It's less stressful because you're not really having to engage the clutch and the stick shift,' he said.

Dakota Shearer drove the Tesla truck into a wrong turn when he became one of the first American truckers to take it for a test drive.

What would usually be a tight spot for his 40-foot-trailer, he got out of easily.

'I backed right out of there, no problem. It's like I'd never done it in the first place,' he told the Journal.

'That right there showed me that the technology the Tesla has makes a big difference.'

The company initially announced the Semis a decade ago but a series of delays kept them from debuting

Drivers who tested the vehicle said the range of each charge was a 'game changer'

The Semi charges four times faster than other electric trucks and Tesla says it costs $100,000 less.

The company has not released the exact cost of the Semi.

But, according to Electrek, quotes started at approximately $290,000.

A classic diesel truck costs between $125,000 and $200,000.

'With remote diagnostics, over-the-air software updates and fewer moving parts to maintain, operators will spend less time at service centers and more time on the road,' the website claims.

Companies found that fewer mechanics are required to work on EV fleets, but the vehicles' high-voltage systems could require even higher-level technicians.

Tesla boasted that charging with electricity can be cheaper than refueling with diesel, potentially making the extra money worth it.

The truck can reportedly travel approximately 500 miles on a single charge

The Semis reportedly require companies to employ fewer mechanics but may call for more skilled electricians

Other drivers said the cameras allowed for easy back-up and U-turn maneuvers, which would not have otherwise been possible

The charging infrastructure required to fuel the Semis is not widely available across the US, which could make long-haul trips tricky.

Musk and Tesla announced plans to build a network of 'mega chargers' across the country in 2026, reported Forbes.

DHL and Pepsi are among pilot companies that have already begun operating a modest Tesla Semi fleet as part of ongoing initiatives to lower carbon emissions.
