LANTANA, Fla. (CBS12) -- A traffic collision claimed the life of a 39-year-old motorcyclist Tuesday evening in Lantana.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO) said the crash occurred around 6:50 p.m., near 6200 South Congress Avenue, near the entrance to Atlantis Plaza. Investigators report that a 2003 GMC Sierra 1500, driven by a 50-year-old man from Stuart, was travelling southbound and attempted a left turn into the plaza. At the same time, a 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, operated by Joshua R. Rene, 39, of Lantana, was heading northbound in the outside lane.
The PBSO report indicates that the driver of the GMC failed to identify the approaching motorcycle and turned directly into its path. The GMC struck the Harley-Davidson, causing Rene to be ejected from his bike. He landed in the northbound lane, suffering fatal injuries. Despite wearing a helmet, Rene was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:57 p.m. His next of kin has been notified.
JUPITER, Fla. (CBS12) -- A man was convicted in Palm Beach County after intentionally ramming his 30-foot vessel, which was carrying 17 undocumented migrants, into a sheriff's office boat near the beach in Jupiter back in August 2023.
Following the crash, the suspect, Bazelais Francois, continued sailing towards shore with another Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office vessel and a helicopter on his trail. The State Attorney's Office in Palm Beach County says Francois abandoned the ship, swam to shore and was eventually apprehended.
The State Attorney's Office says when Francois spoke with investigators, he explained he was trying to enter the country illegally with 17 passengers on board.
FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) -- A 23-year-old man died following a shooting on Monday.
The Fort Pierce Police Department (FPPD) at around 12:27 p.m. on Nov. 24, a 911 call came in near 1200 North 27th Street, related to a gunshot wound.
When officers arrived on the scene, the FPPD stated that it was determined an altercation involving a group of men had occurred, and the 23-year-old sustained a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) -- A man was arrested Thursday after blocking an intersection, wielding a screwdriver, and swiping an officer with his car in an attempt to flee.
On Thursday, officers with the Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD) say they pulled over a driver, later identified as 26-year-old Kenny Bonnet, on St. Lucie West Blvd. because his car was blocking an intersection at a red light, in accordance with the agency's recent "Don't Block the Box" crackdown.
After officers approached Bonnet, they explained the reason for the stop and instructed him to pull over, but he refused to comply, per police.
DELTONA, Fla. (CBS12) -- A late-night prank turned into felony charges for three teenagers in Volusia County after deputies say they kicked in the door of a Deltona woman's home on November 23.
The Volusia Sheriff's Office (VSO) addressed the incident in a Facebook post on November 24, warning that this behavior is far from harmless. "It's not really 'Ding Dong Ditch' if you're kicking doors," the post read. Authorities said the suspects are facing felony attempted burglary charges.
