The two previously met through the standup scene, but didn't get to know each other until 2020, when they connected virtually while playing Call of Duty: WWII during quarantine.
Silverman and Albanese have been together ever since, which has been a sweet surprise for the PostMortem star.
"I was very peacefully and happily single," Silverman told PEOPLE in May 2025. "I felt done, to be honest. You never know what's around the corner. You just can't predict anything."
So who is Sarah Silverman's boyfriend? Here's everything to know about Rory Albanese and his relationship with the comedian.
Albanese was a showrunner, executive producer, writer and production assistant for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart between 1999 and 2013.
Upon leaving the show in 2013, Stewart gave Albanese an emotional sendoff. "I'm going to miss him!" he said, per The Hollywood Reporter. "He's all grown up!"
Albanese has also worked at The Daily Show and The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore.
In addition to his comedy work, Albanese also frequently appears on Silverman's The Sarah Silverman Podcast, particularly during the "Rory's Side of the Albanese" segment to explain his perspective on a topic.
"I'm loving it," Sarah told TIME at the start of her podcast. "I'm learning a lot of the lessons over again that you learn in stand-up. I was swearing every other word [in early episodes] because I suddenly felt this immense freedom that you don't have on television, or even on cable."
In October 2020, Silverman revealed during an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she was in a relationship, explaining that they met playing Call of Duty during the pandemic.
"We were both quarantining. So every night at 7:05 -- I was in New York, so at seven, we would bang the pots and pans out on the fire escape," she said. "Then at 7:05, I'd put my headset on and I'd kill Nazis with this guy. Yadda yadda yadda, we're boyfriend and girlfriend!"
Silverman and Albanese eventually met in person when he moved to New York City.
"He came out here and so he's living out here and it's great and make sweet love," Silverman said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "I feel like I'm jinxing it by talking about it on Ellen, but I can't help myself!"
Though Silverman didn't initially reveal who she was dating, she later confirmed his identity in a November 2020 interview on The Howard Stern Show.
When they first met, Silverman didn't want a serious relationship. However, she soon found that Albanese made her want to break her typical patterns.
"I've really been trying to correct patterns of just hooking up with a guy and doing two-and-a-half years with him. I just fall in so easily," she said. "We'd like to just be together all the time forever. If Rory was someone who was like, 'I need to be married,' then yeah, I'd think about it."
The comedians have performed stand-up comedy on the same playbills. On Aug. 15, 2023, Silverman and Albanese took part in Comedy Rocks alongside Skyler Stone, Tiffany Haddish, among numerous other comedians.
The two have also performed in shows at Comedy Works, Hollywood Improv and more.
Silverman and Albanese made their red carpet debut on May 23, 2022, in New York City. The pair were celebrating Sarah's musical The Bedwetter on its opening night.
"My girlfriend is a genius and her musical is incredible," Rory captioned a subsequent Instagram post showing a series of selfies from the night.
The couple share a number of professional connections. Albanese currently works with one of Silverman's exes, Jimmy Kimmel, as a writer on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
"I did say to Sarah, at the beginning, 'If this is at all awkward, I will not do this, so just tell me,' " Albanese said during a May 2025 episode of The Howard Stern Show. "It hasn't been awkward at all. We're all adults."
In addition, Silverman briefly hosted The Daily Show -- Albanese's former employer -- in 2023.
"It's the same and totally different in terms of there's something special in not being able to tinker with the minutiae of things," Silverman told Salon about the hosting gig.
But Silverman added that she was "pretty prepared" for the week, especially since Albanese gave her "lots of tips."
To celebrate the gig, Albanese posted a photo on Instagram of Silverman at the Daily Show desk with the caption,"Crushed every episode."
The couple purchased a home together and moved in with each other, Silverman told PEOPLE in May 2025.
"I've never had a house," she said. "I bought my first house and he moved to L.A."
