The actress says her five children each have unique fashion tastes and share her passion for self-expression through clothing.

Tori Spelling was a trendsetter in the '90s largely thanks to her iconic role as Donna Martin on Beverly Hills, 90210.

The 52-year-old actress tells PEOPLE while attending the World Accreditation Celebration for Calamigos Ranch Resort & Spa in Malibu, Calif., that she is ready to go "back to my fashion roots," noting that being surrounded by fashion icons her whole life helped her become one herself.

"Through the '80s, '90s, I think growing up, my mom always had the most iconic style, and seeing it through my dad's lens of everything he did through movies and TV -- I'm really kind of finding my roots again," Spelling shares.
"I think I was kind of an OG fashion starter, and I want to continue that," she adds.

Spelling is the daughter of legendary producer Aaron Spelling and Candy Spelling. While the actress had minor acting roles as a child, in 1990, she landed a recurring gig on Saved by the Bell as Violet Bickerstaff. That same year, at age 17, she starred in her breakout role in Beverly Hills, 90210.

Tori -- who has five children with ex-husband Dean McDermott; Liam, Stella, Hattie, Finn and Beau -- adds that her kids are "really into fashion" with "every single one of them in a different way."

"Fashion is about how it makes you feel. I think it's about finding your unique perspective. It can be anything," she tells PEOPLE. "I love reinventing myself through fashion, and it's something that gives me passion inside."

Over the last few years, there has been a resurgence of '90s trends, recently boosted by Ryan Murphy's American Love Story.

"I definitely love fashion. It took me to some really good memories through the '90s, so it was nice to reflect back on that and watch it with a new generation and my teens," Tori says of the FX series.
"It was really cool to be able to tell them stories about going through that time and making it current now," she adds.

Now, Tori is ready to return to her style influencer era, teasing that "Tori 2.0" is "emerging."

While the actress influenced generations, she also dealt with her fair share of scrutiny related to her appearance and style over the years. However, there is one rumor that always made her the most upset.

"The one thing for me that has stuck forever was the plastic surgery thing," Spelling previously told PEOPLE. "I literally had my nose done and my boobs done, and that's it. I'm constantly reading that I've done more."
"People have been talking about me having plastic surgery since I was 17," she continued. "I remember my dad saying, 'Don't worry. It will go away next week.' But that one thing has stayed with me my entire career!"

Ultimately, Tori stays above it and doesn't let it get to her, adding that, "It's fun to own it!"
